Starting point
Ring or send the form. A licensed plumber comes out at no charge, looks at the kitchen and at where the water enters the property, and leaves you with a written price on the spot. Nothing gets touched before you have seen it.
What makes Murdoch different
Murdoch is not a suburb of one kind of building. Murdoch University, Fiona Stanley Hospital and the station sit alongside the houses, and the effect on our work is that we get asked the same question from two very different positions.

If you own the place, the whole range is open. Whole-house at the meter, under-sink, reverse osmosis, a dedicated tap — it is your incoming main and your benchtop, and the decision is about what actually bothers you.
If you rent, the answer is narrower and it is worth knowing before you spend an afternoon reading about systems. Anything cut into the incoming water main is a permanent alteration to the property, and that is the owner's call rather than yours. Under-sink units are the usual practical route for a rental, and even those need the owner's agreement if they involve drilling a benchtop for a separate tap.
We are not going to pretend otherwise to win a job. Tell us your situation when you ring and you will get a straight answer about what is actually available to you — sometimes that answer is a short conversation with the owner first.
The third Murdoch pattern is the household that has moved in and inherited a filter from someone else. It is under the sink, nobody knows what it is, and nobody has changed anything in it. That is a service, not a new system, and it is the smaller job. Cartridge replacement and servicing
What we install here
Under-sink filtration
The most common Murdoch job, and the cheapest way to fix the taste of what you drink and cook with. A couple of hours if the cupboard and the cold feed cooperate. Under sink installation
A dedicated filtered tap
Filtered water gets its own spout beside the mixer, so the cartridge is not working every time you rinse a plate. Needs a spare hole in the benchtop, or one drilled. Filtered tap installation
Whole-house filtration
For owners. Fitted where the water enters the property, so the shower and laundry run filtered too. Whole house installation
Reverse osmosis
The furthest you can reasonably go with drinking water at home. Needs a tank, a drain connection and real cupboard room. Reverse osmosis
Why bother filtering at all
Water Corporation adds chlorine to all of its water supply schemes as a disinfectant, and says it is especially effective where long pipelines and high water temperatures increase the potential for harmful organisms to grow. The supply is treated and monitored — a filter is about taste, odour, sediment and chlorine rather than about safety, and that is a good enough reason on its own.

It also helps to know that Perth water is a blend. Water Corporation supplies more than 1.2 million properties from 43 surface water sources, 92 groundwater sources, two major desalination plants and one groundwater replenishment scheme, and the mix moves through the year. That is why the tap can taste like one thing in autumn and something slightly different by spring.
